HELP: windows share + linux listening to mp3s

Under windows one can listen to mp3s shared on another windows machine without actually explicitly copying them over. Just drag the shared mp3s into any player (WMP, Winamp, etc) and it'll play automatically with no delays, or visible copying. Probably it's streamed over or read and played in real-time, just like if it were reading from local machine.

I am wondering whether this is possible under linux and a windows share. Can I use XMMS on my linux machine listening to mp3s shared on a windows share? Doesn't look like it works just by dragging. Though the file does load, but doesn't play.

How about mounting? mount -t smbfs smb://windows/share /mnt/smb

? Nope. Help!

---Yes, it is. For me it has been really simple: two machines running debian; install apache on both of them
Code:
apt get update
Code:
apt-get install apache
; download from the internet (or copy from wherever) the mp3 files to /var/www on the server workstation; and you just browsed the remote .mp3 files within mozilla; right click; open with application mplayer (in my case) and I was done.

The point here is that you want the client computer with the mp3 player installed runs on window$...that can be done as well....download mozilla for window$ and type the ip of the computer that holds the mp3 files.....then right click on the song.mp3 you want to play and that's it.

----Hope all this makes some sense....I was trying to help.

Greetings,
Juanja.
