Question Help Installing SUSE Enterprise Desktop

Hello all,

Linux newbie here. I am interested in learning Linux so I'm trying to evaluate Ubuntu 7.04 and SUSE Enterprise Desktop. I have successtully installed Ubuntu on both a desktop and a laptop. SUSE however I have only been able to install on the laptop. Whenever I attempt to install SUSE on the desktop machine it starts, I select "Install", it goes to the next screen and then just sits there. I've tried this on two different desktops. One is an HP xw4400 workstation but I gave up on that one because it has SCSI drives. The other machine, the one I really want it on, is a customs AMD Athlon 3000, 2GB RAM and three 80GB hard drives. One hard drive is on IDE and the other two are on IDE RAID controller on the motherboard. I've burned three different DVD's and CD's with the same result.

Any ideas???

Thanks.

Sounds like a hardware issue, most likely the motherboard having some component that would require a driver. I suggest that you verify what you have there and search google to see whether Suse will work with the motherboard, graphics card, etc. Alternatively, you could try temporarily removing components and checking whether it helps any. But that amounts to the same thing: some incompatible part(s). Btw, Suse has a section that allows installing additional drivers early in the install process. You'll have to pay attention because it is a bit hidden - and of course, you need to know what you are after in the first place so google is still your best best right now.
