Thanks 2damncommon, I was starting to wonder if I had partition I did'nt know about. This compaq came out in the beginning of 2000, it had a c partition and a d partition, c was 38 gigs and d was about 2 gigs for backups and that was it, well that is until I added mandrake.

Thank you to everybody who answered my question particulary to aaa who directed me to use the windows boot loader. I have successfully installed and boot slackware 9.1/windows xp on my compaq presario pc.

First impressions? very fast indeed! and i think i am a convert!

A few of the devices are not working but I will research first and I know that you brilliant guys can help me sort them out in due time. I formally welcome myself to the community. Thank you all.
