harddrive going nuts


Hi im in rh9 and was wondering why my harddrive goes absolutely crayzee every 1/2hour as if its moving every file on the hdd at once??

That's probably the update program for locate or slocate. It scans for files so you can easily find them when searching.

There is probably a cronjob owned by root (or a system cronjob, depending on what cron daemon your system has) that triggers the slocate database update and you can set it to run less often if you wish to.
