gtk is hijacking my screensaver!

I'm running KDE on FC7. I much prefer KDE and K applications for their focus on customization. Every once in awhile though there's a gtk+ or java application that does *exactly* what I want, so I'm happy to use it. My only issue is that when those programs are in the foreground, they seem to switch to my gnome screensaver preferences, which, among other things, doesn't allow a guest to click the handy "switch user" button. Ultimately, I just want it to always use my K screen saver settings. How to?

Can you remove the gnome-screensaver package with Fedora's package manager?

Open the gnome screensaver preferences and disable the screensaver.
