From the live cd terminal you will not need to get a grub prompt with grub2. Try those commands I give you in post #3 from live cd terminal and make sure internal hd is 1st boot in your computer bios. If this does not fix then I am missing something.

I just set the external to boot 1st and now it is giving me the message error: no such partition
grub rescue>
Windows is unable to boot as i just get grub rescue screens
I diceded to delete my ubuntu partition and fix the start up with a windows repair disk.
I am then going to reinstall ubuntu on a partion on the internal HD so it hopefuly this will not happen again.
