grub manual booting

Hi All,

I've installed rhel on a dell machine having sata drive. Now probably it has been corrupted and hence when starting the computer it gives me a grub prompt. I’ve tried the following solution

root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz.... root (hd0,2)
initrd /initrd....
boot

from the grub prompt. Now it is saying kernel panic no sysncing:vfs unable to mount the root file system on unknown block..

probably my / is on lvm and boot is a partion.

anybody can help....

More info needed. Do you have any other partitions with other operating systems on them. If you got the Dell with some windows version, they usually have a partition for rescue mode. If you have a Live CD you can use, run the command "fdisk -l" and post the results. No quotes and that's a lower case letter L, not a one.
