Grub

Can GRUB boot w98 from the second partition of a drive that has w2k on the first partition, bypassing w2k's boot loader? Linux is on a seperate drive.

Just put your partition details here. so any one try to find some solution.

Also you can check the details with following commands. Login as root user.

fdisk /dev/hda (your HDD)

cat /proc/partition

Sorry, my question is more a "is it possible" type question. I had a linux/ w2k/ w98 system, all on seperate drives and all booting ok. What I want to do is move w98 to the second (new) partition on the w2k drive, freeing up a drive for another Linux distro. I suspect w98 is not bootable from a second partition and I want to avoid using w2k boot loader. So far I have created the new partition (as another primary) and copied all the w98 files over. I am following advice on another forum to get boot sectors onto the new partition but no success booting yet. I pose the GRUB question here to check if I am wasting my time trying this.

Here is the info requested with hda for LINUX, hdc1 for W2K, hdc2 for W98 and hdd being a scratch drive. The original W98 drive is not in the machine atm but this, LINUX and the combo W2K/W98 drive are in removable caddies. Any comments appreciated.

You can move all Win98 files another drive.but it is not advisable. I am wondering if you try to change boot sector you might be in trouble.so it is adivsable to do fresh reinstalling win98 under GRUB.
