Just in case you are not aware? Netbooks comonly have a hidden windows restore partition - you should use this before installing Ubuntu; if you do want to dual boot with windows.

I think you mean delete it....
If the setup is not going to be dual-boot, just let the Ubuntu installer do the partitioning.

almost. had a problem with the dl and it wasn't registering as an ISO file... 3 minutes til it's done dling again.

alright. now the disk is done, disk is in the external drive, and it sees the external drive... but isn't doing anything about it right now.

and in trying to get that to work, i found the "hidden" restore folder for Windows. still going to end up switching to linux though. so now my comp is working again... just need to swap the OS

no, it's not automatically booting from the cd, it sees the drive, just isn't reading the cd

Try playing around with the BIOS settings (especially the boot sequence), make it so the CD and/or USB devices come before the hard drive.
