getting started with kernel

hello everyone,
i had started with shell scripting and now i know basic commands and how to write and execute shell scripts and basic like for loop,while loop and all.
and i will be learning more commands and basics of unix and shell programming in detail in college.
my question is can i start with kernel.
please suggest me some ebooks or html resources so that i can get stated with kernel.

If you want to know more about shell programming, google for "Advanced bash scripting guide". About the kernel, it's an unrelated topic and has nothing to do with scripting. Still, if you are interested look out for a book called "linux kernel in a nutshell". You can download both freely.
