Garmin updates

I wish I could download updates/maps for my Garmin gps units.

I don't use or want Windows anymore but Garmin and ubuntu don't play nice.
My maps are really out of date.

Garmin basically gives you one choice - windows 7 or later. Hope you like the idea of keeping a windows install somewhere (getting off one of my many hobby horses now).

And (I hope I'm wrong here) all the others are the same.

Wink Garmin

Can't someone fix this?
I know I'm a noob, but there an awful lot of very clever Linux experts out there. I was under the impression they could do just about anything.

Awesome ! - thank you ChuangTzu (and Lilleyen for asking). Never even thought to look - I keep Win7 on this laptop largely for just this. Guess I should go look for a Logitech Harmony solution too ...

I'll start digging around but just in case you have similar links for tomtom I'd be glad if you'd share them ... or is that the one outfit that glues its customers eternally to windows?

I tried https://developer.garmin.com/open-source/linux/ but they don't list the Garmin Nuvi 260W file anywhere that I can see.
