folder permissions

What is the easiest way to edit files (rename/del/etc) that are in a folder, when your regular user doesn't have permission? I know I can su then edit away, but is there a way to do this from the desktop?

I'm running gnome on a gentoo setup.

I noticed write support on ntfs partitions is no longer experimental in the 2.6 kernel. How safe is this? I have a 200 gb drive, ntfs, and 75% full. Eventually I'd like to switch it over to ext3...but that's a whole other topic. hehe

thanks!

If you right click on the folder, select properties and then permissions you can change them there. You can also pick "select all" then right click on one and do the same to change for all the files in a folder.

you can use "su" for root or "su userid" for a different user and edit the file and log out. Another command I use to temporarily do something as root is something like

su -c "commandtorun".
