Question Fn Key on Dell Laptop

just bought a new Dell Inspiron with Ubuntu already installed. When trying to print an ascii Character using Dec nos - alt0169 on a desktop will print the copyright symbol directly into your text. This works in other laptops with Windows installed. The Fn key is working on the number pad etc. Is it something to do with Linux & if so how can I correct it.

Sometimes this is an application issue, sometimes it's an OS issue.

Are you using a word processor, such as's 'writer'? If you only need the functionality when typing office documents, you might try assigning the copyright symbol to the (c) (open-parens, c, close-parens) custom spelling dictionary.

For a system-wide issue, make sure you're using an appropriate Unicode page in your apps.

Does that make sense, or have I missed the intent of your question?
