But I don't install flash by distro means. And even pepperflashplugin and the PPAPI flash are installed in the ~/ of a single user. So I can have "other" users that DO NOT have flash, for safer browsing.
kronik1961, I would agree with ondoho. You should update your system to the latest version of ubuntu. And it's the easiest option in terms of the solution to your problem. Best of luck!
ardvark, as usually, none of those links provides useful help. please stop broadcasting your signature.
I don't even know how to use this forum... lol
I upgraded to 16.04.1 LTS It took 7-8 hours.
Don't know if flash problem is resolved or not... flashplayer web page says I have the latest version installed but I don't see a moving logo like I used to see with Windows O/S.
Now I have a problem with slow computer & horrible internet connectivity, do I have to start another thread?

Hi...
Since you're not the OP, how do you know the links don't help? Also, while you and others may disagree with my faith, I have no intention of removing my signature.

Hi...
Sometimes newer OS's require more powerful hardware, apart from the fact that "sandwich" installs sometimes don't end up all that great. What are your system hardware specs, such as the processor, amount of memory, graphics chip, etc.? You may need to install a more lightweight distribution of Linux, such as Lubuntu, if you want to stay within the Ubuntu family.
Yesterday I was told what I was using was no good... (Ubuntu 14.1.0)I did as suggested and now my computer is almost useless. I wait almost 30 seconds before these words will appear. Connection speed is garbage now as well.Ping 2081ms. Down... 0.49Mbps. Up... 0.23 Mbps.Windows machine plugged in the next router port... Ping...10 ms. Down... 103.51 Mbps. Up... 16.78 Mbps. What do I do now? I guess the one good thing out of it all is flash stopped crashing.
Try a different distro? It's 2017 now. Version 16.10 is out, and in a few months, 17.04. Not that any of those are better, but at least different and a fresh roll of the dice. Two bootable usb sticks (installer + destination) are like $20-$40 at walmart, and some are quite fast usb3 type drives these days.
I use debian stable and aside from the oddball network interface that needs a newer driver and different firmware, it just works. Although flash is still mostly a manual process. And I have a few dongles that offer temporary solutions to networking woes.
For my manual way:
$ git clone https://github.com/i-rinat/freshplayerplugin/ freshplayerplugin_20170206
$ cd freshplayerplugin_20170206
$ cmake ./
$ make
$ cp libfreshwrapper-flashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins/
Then get the PPAPI flash and copy the lib and manifest to ~/.mozilla/flash/
Granted that there's a lot of deps needed to successfully compile freshplayerplugin. But it works under firefox and presents to servers as a windows version-ish number. So they don't outright block you based on that like many do these days. Of course manual ways require manual updates and they are often when it comes to flash.
Distribution: Currently: OpenMandriva. Previously: openSUSE, PCLinuxOS, CentOS, among others over the years.

A lot depends on the drivers included with said distro. You may need to try some different distro's, before you find the one that has the best mix of drivers for your PC's hardware devices (Video/Sound/Ethernet/Wifi/etc). If you want to stick with Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS, then yes I would start new threads about your latest issues.
Thanks for all your non-help. I've been suitably impressed with your use of the lingo but have no clue as to what you are saying. Microsoft does a much better job sorry to say... at least they used to fix my issues.

Hi...
If you want to go back to Windows, that's fine and certainly an option. If you want to stay with Linux, then, at this point, I would recommend either asking a local Linux user's group (LUG) for help or taking your system to a reputable computer repair shop or technician who is highly proficient with Linux.

Yes, all the malware is pre-installed on windows. Did you buy a system that come with linux? Clearly it got installed somehow. I doubt that process has changed much. 2 storage devices, one to boot from with an installer image on it, and one to receive the installed distro. Rufus under windows can put the installer image on one of the drives. Various sites to help you select your image.

and others. I kind of liked the fedora installer the last time I used it (version 23). I think your concern might be with adobe, not linux, since flash is their product. If they don't want you to have it, then clearly they've done a good job of making it difficult to obtain and use. Or not.
