file sharing between OSX and Ubuntu

Yes...I've read the tutorial written by Czechknight or whoever it is. It didn't help. I posted this there and the moderator locked the thread for whatever reason. I'm trying to get file sharing to work between my OSX machine and my new Ubuntu box. I'm totally new at this. I had my OSX machine file sharing with windows perfectly using Samba on my mac. Now I'm still trying to use Samba to connect with my Ubuntu box and did everything that tutorial said to do, and I get a message on my mac that says when I try to log in to the Ubuntu box something like " cannont login due to missing file" or something like that. Can anyone help me get this to work? Basically......I want to share files between my Ubuntu box and my OSX machine. Detailed help...and please don't tell me to search for an answer here because I can't find any that help. Remember I'm new at linux and have no idea what to type and where when it comes to coding and stuff.

I suggest installing linux on your mac, and using a native network.

You can use Samba, set up samba on your Ubuntu box, and you should be able to access the samba share from your Mac.

Since OSX is based on Unix, you can also use NFS. Set up NFS on your ubuntu box, and download NFS Manager for your Mac. The NFS shares will show up under "network" in the finder.

Sorry I can't be of more assistance right now, I am away from my Linux box so I can't check the configuration files. Hopefully I have pointed you in the right direction though.
