Actually a new thread and not a reply - I did not see my problem listed in the 16 pages here, and it is a Defora Core issue (FC2).
I can manyallu enter the requisite data to make FC2 see my memory sticks, and I can use them -- for that session.
If I close down and reboot, all the usbstidk information goes away when the boot checks for new hardware and updates fstab.
I even know the 'what' of the solution, but I forgot the 'how" !
I need a shell script for the startup that will prevent the above problem. I have seen it before, about two years ago, in the computer lab of a Linux II course (Gui as opposed to text). I have forgotten wht the script said, and even where to put it.
I would appreiate help with the script ~ I can dig around and find out whre to put i tif I can get help on what it should say.
If it is any help, tail -f /var/log/messages shows the two usb sticks I am using when they are inserted and when they are removed, ragardless of wht fstab and /mnt have in them - correct ID,size, etc, of both usb sticks as sda1.
Advanced thanks to anyone who is willing to strap this on, or even point me in the right direction.
