I have now installed Fedora 15 three separate times separated by about a week each install attempt.

As Installation of Fedora 15 finishes a screen announces:
“Congratulations! You have successfully installed Fedora 15. Note that there may be updates
available on the Web and you should install them so that your system is up to date.”
(Or words of similar meaning)

Then the screen reads that for the installation to take effect I must Reboot the computer.
At the lower right hand corner of the screen is a button which reads “Reboot.”

I click on Reboot and the machine appears to be rebooting----

BUT---but........The screen then shows “Grub
The "Grub" screen shows TAB" Screen seems to suggest that User press TAB for further use (or words of similar meaning)

Pressing Tab lists many words which I interpret to be commands---perhaps 20 different words; maybe more. A couple I remember are boot and root. I don't remember any others.

I tried a few of the commands but nothing happens to enable the Fedora 15 Desktop Screen to appear.
So I can't use a single asepct of Fedora 15.

I don't know what I've done wrong.
If I had made a mistake or mistakes during Installation, why would the “Congratulations!
You have successfully installed Fedora 15" screen appear at the end of Installationn?

Tho' I am not completely new to Linux, I classify myself as a GUI user rather than a command line user.

A possibility is that the installation did succeed, but what got installed was faulty. Did you check the md5sum of the iso before burning the disk? Did you run the "check disk" option in the installer?

1.whats your filesystem/partition structure ? Did you use LVM ?
2.Did you select to install GRUB ? Did you make any changes to Grub configuration ?

the " GRUB > " error is because the bootlloader can not find it's self

you installed grub to the wrong partition or your boot order is mixed up ( if there are two or more drives)
is dual boot with win7 then you tried putting grub on the HIDDEN windows "recovery" partition

fedora 15 was buggy .

if this is a fedora ONLY install then you most likely messed up the partitions

pop in "Gparted" live cd and 100% remove all partitions ( leave the disk UNFORMATTED ). Then reinstall fedora

William: I used an installation disk from OSDisc. I did not download an iso image and so did not burn my own DVD Install disk.
I did not check the MD5 sum. I did “check the disk” on two of my 3 attempts and it was approved for using the program content

William: I made no attempt to partition the file system. I chose the option to use all the space and was warned that everything on the drives would be deleted and that I should have backups. Re Grub. My memory is faulty---but I had to make some choice about Grub. There are two SATA drives on my computer. The Install program asked me where to put the Boot Loader. I chose the storage device with the largest memory. Please teach me what is the simplest choice I could make when asked, next time, what to do about Grub.

William: There are two hard drives in my machine. I don't know how to create a dual boot machine and made no attempt to do that. If you allude to MS Windows, I don't run such an op. System. If you allude to the program which takes care of windows in Linux, xwindows, SI think, I'll have to read the link you provided.
I'm sure you're right that I would have done better to use Fedora 16.
Re: “Gparted lice cd” I have read about it but have never used it. I fear that I would misuse it and cause myself a lot of trouble. You must be assuring me that I won't get into more trouble by
wiping everything off the hard disk/disks and starting Installation from scratch?
Do you mean the current versions of Gparted handles the ext4 format in Fedora?

I admit that I'm at a very elementary level with Linux. I don't have as good a personal memory as I did when I was young.

I'm replying to John VV and the group

I used/tried two separate versions of Gparted ---at separate times---to attempt to wipe the Hard Drive clean and then to install Fedora 16 instead of the Fedora 15 which once was installed on my main computer. Neither Gparted disk was recognized when the machine was booted.

The first Gparted disk was version 0.3.6-7.
The second was a Gparted disk downloaded from the Gparted website a few days ago.

Neither Gparted disk was recognized by my computer---the computer continues to boot up normally but then reverts to the “Grub” screen.

Struggling for what to do next I put a Fedora 16 Live CD-Install disk (Bought from OsDisc Co.) in the computer drive and re-booted.
The Fedora 16 disc was not recognized and the machine booted to the “grub” screen---as detailed above in the thread.

Thus, I'm neither able to wipe the hard drive of the computer clean nor able to simply install Fedora 16.

Is there some special way to introduce Gparted to one's computer?

I finally recognized that I hadn't changed the boot sequence so that the OSDisc of Gparted0.3.6-7 wasn't recognized when I tried to run it.

I changed the boot sequence to recognize the DVD-CD drive.

I followed the directions Gparted brought to the screen and eventually got the Main Operating screen of Gparted. It showed me that I had 642.37 GB of data on the machine.

The main Gparted screen has a "Delete" button and I clicked it. The Pending screen showed that the 642.37 GB was pending deletion.

I clicked around and found the button that actually does the deleting. I clicked it.

I then turned the computer off.

But---later---when I booted the LEK machine it booted to the GRUB screen still again.

So, deleting the 642.37 GB of data did not remove the Operating system on the machine.

How do I remove the Op. System on the computer so that the Hard Drives are clean of data?

I have bought from OSDisc the Fedora 16 Live CD-Install disk and want to try to install that op. system on my main computer.

So deleting 642.37 GB didn't get rid of whatever still remains on the system.
