Fedora 10 install-no root user found/offered; and no Device-Modem search
I have just installed a live disk of Fedora 10 on my Compaq 2.4 GHZ EVO. The disk was an Internet purchase. I got very little complication while loading the OS but it was certainly different than other Linux OS's I've installed as there was no root user option. The problem that I am having is in 2 pieces and the first is that I am not able to find my modem or the Device tool to find the modem as listed in some Fedora Modem Setup info. I went to Network Admin and tried to setup the modem but it was never found. The OS knew it was there as I saw it at the opening notes. I think the reason I cannot find the modem is that there is no root user. This is the second problem. I have only one user and that is me. I can go to various functions and will be quizzed for the root password but there is no root user as there is me, the personal user. I think that because I cannot get into a root user, as it is not installed I cannot get to Device to setup the modem but how was the root user to be set up as I did not get that option. It is not there. I think either there is a simple answer to this question or the disk and OS are corrupt. I could use some help.
Thanks,
Kent L
