Ok Lets say I have an older version of open office, the redhat red exclamation point says I have some updates. One of these is a new version of open office. I chose it, I load it and install it with the default settings for uptodate. When all is said and done I go to applications and low and behold the old version of open office is still there. What gives? Do I have to do a command line install of the downloaded rpm? How do I get to the latest version of open office that was downloaded to my system ( to the default location)? How do I get it to show up in the applications tab on my gnome desktop pulldown? Help,,thanks
Can you tell me which Open Office Version are you trying to upgrade from and which version of open office you are expected to see.
The reason is because I cannot remember is there any big significant version number increase for Open Office.
If you haven't done so re-boot your FC3!! A lot of time I have install new GPL software, it need a re-boot before you see any changes to the GONE menu.
I have 1.13 that was installed with my Kernal,,I'm not sure on which version was downloaded with up2date,,possibly 1.18. I also had chosen Perl from up2date. I did not have it installed before, it downloaded but it does not appear in my available programs. It feels like I have to do something else once I download form up2date. Any ideas on either of these? thanks
The version that shipped with FC3 maybe 1.1.3. Fedora tends to stick to the same release and only provides security upgrades for that version, so the version number will remain the same.
