Fc17 hanging every time after installing updates!

hi everybody,
Fedora Core 17 hangs after installing every update when asked to reboot or logout.
i have to manually press the switch on my laptop to turn it off and then back on.

Does it just do that after updating or anytime you shut down? If it is just after updates, who cares? If not, something else is wrong.

I'd go into the system settings and see what is or isn't enabled.

If you open a terminal as root and tell it to shutdown, what happens?

Eg.

su
My root password
shutdown now

Or

halt now

it hungs only after asked to reboot when updating completes else its ok.

Have you tried logging out without rebooting and then logging back in and rebooting after that?

Are the updates installed successfully after all that?
