Failed semi attempt at making my own little distro

I wanted to make a little system with busybox and nothing else really. It all went well untill the booting where I got a kernel panic saying it cant mount the root filesystem.Followed the instructions from linuxjournal exactly but using the 2.6.8 kernel in the directory "tiny".I'd give the URL but it seems I cant.

Compiled busybox 1-rc3 with all the default options except it's static linked. For the kernel I'm using 2.6.8 with very little except ram disk and compresed filesystem enabled.

To date this is my largest linux project so thank you for any help!

any you have compiled the driver for all the drivers you need to access the root partiton into the kernel ?
that means the filesystem driver and the IDE bus driver compiled into the kernel ?

if they are compiled as modules then you will need to build an initrd image containing the modules to pass to the kernel at grub time.

I don't know much about making a new distro but it might be easier to do a remaster of knoppix.

Yes I'm quite sure.Even if it not I tried using other kernels I have(the one for FC1 and for DSL).

Still I'll recompile again and see how it goes

PS
Zuggy, I'm not trying anything serious, just wanted to see if I can make something basic work
