Failed attempts to serve PHP with Slack 8.1 causing hair loss!

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to get my Slackware 8.1 box to serve PHP pages but I'm having little success. I have an index.php in /var/www/htdocs but when I try to view localhost with a browser I only see a file listing.

I followed the install instructions to the letter and when that didn't work, looked in httpd.conf and uncommented the line "Include mod_php.conf". (With reboots!)

Am I missing something obvious?

Many thanks in advance.
