Hello sysadmins i have a sata backup plus external hdd. It's Formated with gpt table and ntfs file system. In windows & mac it automatically detech the drivers and working fine but in any linux(RPM | Debian) its having a problem.

I have been installed ntfs-3g package on my fedora 24 system. I'm able to read write. its working fine but when i unmount it it will be unmounted but the hdd led indicator still on and im hear noise & vibration feedback of the hdd.

I tried many commands like (udisks --detach /dev/sdX) (hdparm -y /dev/sdb)

Please help me & Thanks You.

Welcome to LQ, raiput944!

The LED indicator on the computer chassis is independent of the external drive. That drive corresponds to the LED on the external drive enclosure. Sometimes when a drive is unmounted, there are a few transactions to be written to the drive or the drive journal. So you might see the light for a second after you issue umount. If the LED on the PC chassis is lit when you unmount, don't worry about it.

If the drive is making noises that's a bad sign. I would install "smartmontools" and display the SMART data with
Code:
smartctl -a /dev/sdb
or whichever drive it is. Then, run a test on the drive with the same program.
Code:
man smartctl
and scroll down to the examples.
