Execute a shell script when clicking on a certain file extension

Hello,
I am using Fedora 17 and I want to open a certain type of files I have with a shell script I have written when double clicking on them.

Can I include that script in the list of programs to use under the open with tab (in the file properties)?

Is there any other way to associate that file extension with the script?

Thank you,
Antonio

Desktop Environments have tools for managing it, sometimes associations can also be changed from within a File Manager but what in essence links file types with applications is the MIME type "database".

Thank you, I'll look for more details about that.
