ethernet card + suse = ??????????????


im trying to set up the internet on my suse pc via an ethernet card and cable modem,,,,,, the card is an ACCTON NETWORK EVERYWHERE FAST NC100 ive got the suse manual and ive downloaded a file from CHETNET KNOWLEDGE BASE .the chetnet file is for setting up a ntl cable modem on linux using an ethernet card which is everything ive got...........the suse finds my card and everything but the chetnet file tells me change things to get it running as it wont let me browse as it is. when t type in DEVICE=etho
ONBOOT=YES
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
then it tells me to press esc then type :wq! i get the error message
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg=eth0 E212:cannot open file for writing
PLEASE HELP

Hi, this DEVICE=etho should be DEVICE=eth0 as in zero. What editor are you using, and are you doing this as root or su -?

have you tested the DSL setup option within SUSE's yast ?

I just used that and everything worked fine.
