Smile ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

I can't run network on my computer and generic kernel 2.6.24.5-smp (all network devices are enabled in BIOS). Here are my attempts to establish the reason of that problem...

# ifconfig eth0 192.168.16.194

SIOCSIADDR: No such device
eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
SIOCSIBRDADDR: No such device
eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device

Can you help me please!

This is telling you that you don't have network interface card (NIC) called eth0.

Check your NIC names with
Code:
ip a
or
Code:
ifconfig

Is there any reason your using a 2.6 kernel? It might be missing the module for the NIC?
