DVD RW 710A sony "Acces Denied" ???!

I have Mandrake 10.0, and after putting it off for 6 months, I finally installed on my Computer. I have 2 HD so one is Windows and the Other is Mandrake 10.0. I installed Mandrake that was on a DVD I got from a friend. I used the 710A sony DVD RW to install it, so it is working. Mandrake will recognize its existance, give me specs and things in the configure menu. I am more of a hardware person than a software person atm, so I took up linux as more of an exploration. I played around with the jumper setting and such on devs and nothing works, still only the CD RW drive is accessable. I didn't restrict the usage to root etc, I even made sure all the configs and permissions were teh same on both the CDRW and DVDRW. I am a total newb... plz help me.

Also I was reading alot on japanese language supports yet I haven't found a forum that told me what to do, as stated I use Mandrake 10.0.
Thank you for your time !

So I understand that you can't at the command line do a 'cd /directory/where/dvd/is/mounted' in your user account. Am I correct? Well, first, the drive needs to be mounted, and the dvd needs to be inside. Try accessing it as root first.

It says it is mounted '/mnt/cdrom2' it displays as an icon on the desktop. I tried accessing it through the terminal and it says that it is a directory. I know how to use terminal, but I don't know many cmds... I guess I really don't know how to use it, but I would like to. thx for your help.

jeez... I should have tried this earlier... I been only trying to view burnt DVDs... I load up a regular dvd and it reads it fine... I think maybe it has something to do with the fact I used DVD RWs? I burned these DVDs with easyCD creator 6. Has anyone had this problem? Also do I need to get some kind of dvd video player? or some kind of codec for totem? becuause I can veiw the files but I cannot really play them, they have them all in there chunks, i.e. video portion, audio portion, and for some reason not all the files are there, i'm thinking that there is some kind of controller that targets diff parts of the file? Well just a guess. Thanks!
