During installation of Redhat 9 I get "No devices found to install Red Hat Linux". It then tells me I need to install drivers. I thinkwhat I need to do is install the drvnet.img drivers so I made a floppy with those on it. I'm installing Red Hat from CD. When I get back to the installing drivers screen during the Red Hat insall, it asks me if I have the disk with drivers and I get to the screen that shows which disks Red Hat sees as disks I can install drivers from. The only selections are hda and hdb - the floppy drive fd is not seen by the Red Hat install program. How do I get it to see the floppy drive with the drivers on it? Or is there another way to get the driver I need during the install. I've been fighting this for awhile now and I can't get past this error. The install bales with the above error and I never get any further.

How far into the install do you get this error exactly?

Right after the CD media test screen I get "No hard drives have been found. You need to manually chose device drivers". I have built a floppy disk with the disk drive driver images (drvblock.img) from the Red Hat CD #1. The problem is when I go to the screen to manually install drivers only hda and hdb, my 2 hard drives, show up as options to install drivers from - the floppy drive is not seen or shown as an option. When I continue on with the install after anaconda runs and X starts up I get to the select installation type screen, then the option screen to select auto or manyal partitionioning and then I get "No valid devices were found to create file systems" and it bales out of the install. I'm stuck. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Yes, I have 2 internal SATA drives. XP is on the first drive and I want to install Red Hat 9 on the second SATA drive. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Redhat 9 is ancient by linux standards. It will not support SATA natively, as it barely existed when 9 was released. You can use drivers to get Redhat to see your SATA disks, but why bother? If you like Redhat, get Fedora Core 4, which is 4+ generations of Redhat newer than 9. Fedora Core 4 will support SATA drives without having to resort to external drivers.

The solution is simple. Hed Hat 9 is so ancient that it is not and has not been supported for some years now. After Red Hat 9, the manufacturer changed philosophy, and started Fedora Core. Fedora Core 6 is supposed to be out either now or in the immediate future. That makes Red Hat 9 roughtly the windows 3.11 to Fedora Core 6 being XP. The reason it won't install is that most current hardware didn't exist when it was released. Get any of the up to date distros (I personally detest Fedora/Red Hat, but to each his/her own), and the install will go smoothly.

I'm running into the same error about needing to install a device driver when trying to install Red Hat 9. Unfortunately I'm trying to support hardware that only has drivers for Red Hat 7.3,8, and 9 - I'd like to use 9 because its the most recent. I also have a list of drivers to choose from that can be used during the install but I'm unsure which one to choose. I can provide the list if need be. Any help would be appreciated.

Chances are big that you won't need separate drivers for your device when using a recent Linux distribution.
In the very most cases (speaking of standard hardware components), the driver will already be integrated into the kernel and the device should be recognized during install.
Just give it a try.

try installing the current red hat RHEL 5.5 if it installs them buy it and update
or install SentOS 5.5
CentOS 5.5 installed just fine on my 10 year old DELL computer
