Dual booting XP and mandrake 9.2....HOW??????

Ok....I'm really new to linux. I hate XP but I like it for some software. I have to dual boot. Here is what i did....Xp is on a seperate 10gb drive and linux is on a 20Gb drive. Lunix cant see windows and windows cant see linux. In fact, windows cant even see the linux drive in windows explorer. Both OS run fine by themselves. How do I connect the two drives and get the option to dual boot either linux mandrake 9.2 or windows xp? Thank you for any help....Dave

How did you go about setting everything up? I have installed mdk9.2 on about ten different systems to dual-boot with XP. You should have Windows installed first, and when you start up your Mandrake installation the first thing it should ask you is whether you want to keep your Windows system or not. There was a thread about a very similar problem to the one you're having a few days ago. I tried searching for "dual boot", but couldn't find it right away. If you try searching for a bit, you should be able to find it. Since Mandrake takes about 15 minutes to install, and since it sounds like you just set it up (meaning you don't have much data that you would need to back up), re-installing would be probably be the easiest option. Before you do that though, maybe you could let us know exactly what it is you did.

I first had windows installed on the 20 Gb drive, then I installed linux to the 10Gb drive. Linux ran fine and I absolutely love it. However, when I tried to access windows I couldn't. Apparently linux wrote it's boot loader to the windows drive thus deleting my MBR for XP. So now I had to do a full install on the 20 gb for linux and wiped the 10Gb for windows xp. As I installed linux I had the 10Gb unplugged and when I installed windows I had the linux drive unplugged. I think I might just reinstall linux on the 10Gb drive with windows and use the 20Gb drive for storage. will the 10Gb drive be big enough for both OS's and also will both systems read the 20Gb drive to write to it? Thanks for any help again......Dave (def a newbie)
