DSL, WebServer, Router
Hello All. Sorry to create another (probably simple) thread. But I like many others am an extreme newb. I am attempting to setup a webserver with Mandrake 9.0 (Cover disc that I got off Linux Format) here is the current setup of hardware.
P233 PC with 64 megs mem 12 gig hd.
Linksys 4 port gateway / router
DSL Connection
Misc other PCs running windows (yuck!)
Here's what I think I understand and where I think I am at so far:
Have linux running as GUI on P233
Have Apache 1.? running and can access via localhost
Communication over router from Linux machine to internet
There is an option in the Router for IP Forwarding
I understand that I will most likely need to make sure that my DSL connection has a static IP so that my re-direct will always work.
What I need to be able to read or find is, how should I direct incoming requests from the router to the linux machine if only using the IP Forward of the router? Is this possible and safest way?
i greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer even if it is a link to a site where I can read information specifically related to this.
I hope to eventually be done with window in the near future but I have a long way to go.
Thanks and cheers.
Chris B.
