Drivers...

I assume you have installed the Canon drivers for both the printer and scanner functions. The scanner function is opened by using the keystroke "Alt+F2" to open a small window and typing "scangearmp".

The Canon Europe site linked to by frankbell has a link to Manuals, including two for installing and using this printer-scanner with linux drivers.

If the Canon scanner driver gives you trouble, there are those who have gone other ways, using the sane back-end.
