Double key press on Keyboard

Hi all,

I have just installed SUSE 9.1 and when I am typing some of my characters require me to press the key twice.

This includes the apostrophe ´
and the home dir key ~

Is there a way to stop this?

I would just like to press it once and have it appear.

Many thanks,

Peter.

Are yu sure your keyboard layout matches the one Linux thinks you're using?
My keyboard will only let me write ^ after I either double type or press space 'cos it thinks it needs to be on top of another letter.
In the case of your ' maybe you're mistaking the single quotation mrk qith an accent.
As foor the ~ it took me ages to find out I could produce it by typing AltGr+4. I simply tried all available key combinations untill I found it.

I´ve just found the same problem with Slackware 10.0 running KDE 3.2.
The ` ~ key and the ´ ¨ key need pressing twice to get a result, but I also found that when I was playing with mysql the quotation mark ´ was not being recognised.
Also as linmix says the ^ needs two presses to get it to work.
I checked on a normal, non-X, console and everything works fine same in Windoze no problem.
Did either of you find a solution ?
