Does ./configure command do a check on dependencies?

Is there any dependency check when you do a './configure' ? Will it proceed with compiling the source files if there are missing dependencies?

Thanks !

The idea of ./configure is to check dependenices and if the software will work on your computer. It won't install if there are unmet dependencies
