disable synaptic touchpad

I'm not able to disable the touchpad (synaptic) after downloading the driver to the touchpad. My distro is red hat 9.0 and my computer is dell inspiron 2650. After f2 prior to bootup and disableing here the touchpad continues to work once the OS is up and running. Help disableing it.

Last week you posted this same thing and your distro was SuSE. Now you've got RedHat.
Next week get Slack, you'll never go back! The learning curve is steeper, but you'll
learn Linux and not RedHat :} For now let's see if we can get rid of that pesky flat mouse :}

Okay, first boot and go into your BIOS again and write down the choices it gives
you about disabling the touchpad, and which one you have set.

Next, post that in here, and the contents of this file ->
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
