Question Different RPMs

I have seen that there are sometimes different RPMs for the same software (e.g. for Scribus, there are RPMs for Fedora, for Suse,...) What is the difference? Are they equivalent? Can I, for example, use a "Fedora" RPM to install some packages on a Mandrake distro?

they will be compiled with that distro's standard environment. standard required library files will be in the same locations, and of the same version. so they shoould fit in and run just fine. oten these differences aren't a problem, and other rpm's will work fine. but if it's for your distro, and you've been keeping things accurately up to date, then your own disotr's releases is best.
