I was reading the topic in the general forum and wanted to try and change the theme. I have download a tar.gz file. How and where do I extract that file so I can select it

well i am not sure if this is the right answer for you question but i would just go in the theme manager then point it to the theme's zip thats what i did.

I just download them into my home directory.

tar -zxvf filename.tar.gz
cd into filename directory
read README
read install

The instructions are usually in the install file. If not, then usually the steps are something like:

./configure
./make
./make install

You'll have to be root to make install
