Continuing downloads after logout


is there a way to keep the current downloads running even after i logout?
i have root login at my dept's computer but i cant leave logged in and I cant sit around for my downloads to complete...

I dont know if this is possible, so someone hit me if I'm wrong.
Since your dept probably has some sort of expensive internet connection we wont have to worry about dial-up PPP stuff.
You could... try to use "wget <url> &" in another terminal (by hitting Alt+F1 or any terminal F key you want). This would make wget run in the background and then you can switch to another virtual terminal and leave it there.
