Console problem...

I am having a problem with konsole or terminal or however you wish to define it. I would like to use KDE but when I start up konsole the spaces are extremely large and out of proportional, basically imagine a tab is a space. I can't backspace because it still leaves partial ghost images of the previous letters, nor clear the console.

When I go into gnome however I try and run the console and it works fine, proportional and fully functional.

Can someone please tell me how to fix the default shell in KDE or recommend a flashy new one?

Oh and how silly of me, I am using Redhat 8.0 installed from the CD and updated a few minutes ago.

Also IBM R31 Laptop but I doubt that matters.

From the konsole menu select settings -> font try a few out 'till you like it best then again from the konsile menu settings -> save settings
