Compiling .tex in Mandrake 9.1

I used to compile .tex files using Latex command in Red Hat 9, but I tried the same in Mandrake 9.1 and it doesn't work. What is the equivalent command?

"latex" command works regardless of distribution or OS. Are you sure you have "tetex-latex" and related packages installed?
