Compiling Samba in Fedora x86_64

I have Fedora 1.92 (Core 2 Test 3) x86_64 running on my SK8V. When I upgraded from Core 1 to Core 2, samba stopped allowing me to mount Windows shares. According to a samba bugzilla report, this problem is a known bug that is fixed in the most recent version.

bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1276

I have downloaded this version (samba-3.0.3). It compiles and installs OK. The only problem is that it installs to the wrong place (/usr/local/samba) and for some reason, Fedora has smbd & nmbd in /usr/sbin. I have tried playing around with the "--prefix" and "--exec-prefix" flags in the ./configure script with out much success.

Does anyone know how to compile and install samba on Fedora x86_64?

remove the RPMs
or compile your own samba 3.0.3 RPM (using the source RPM)

Just as I was removing the installed samba rpms, I discovered that the new Fedora Samba-3.0.3 rpms had just become available through yum and up2date, so I ended up installing these instead of compiling.

Thanks for your advice! I will definitely follow it next time.

BTW - samba-3.0.3-4 works great. I can now mount all of my windows shares flawlessly.
