Commands for simple messaging script

Hello people,
I'm looking for a command (no "talk"or "write" command) that could be used for a simple messaging script. This script should be able to send simple text messages over a network. Which commands could be good candidates? Maybe rcp or nc?

Smile Netcat (nc) most definitely

Hello!

I did stuff like this with nc so this would be a very good starting point. As long as it is one-to-one, nc is fine. When it comes to chat room like scenarios, netcat is going to be far more difficult.

For one-to-one just start nc in listening mode on the first pc and connect from the other pc with another nc instance and voila, you can chat.

Regards, Heraton

I played around with netcat, but I didn't find a way to implement a broadcast messaging function that allows to send messages to a group of people. Finally, rcp is my last man standing.
