command in $PATH isn't found

I'm running slackware and have just installed a new JRE. I want to run javac & other tools. I edited /etc/profile to include the containing folder (/opt/jdk1.5.0_08/bin) but I keep getting '-bash javac: command not found'.

A screen dump follows:

Code:
jon23d@jfd:~/devel/java]$ javac
-bash: javac: command not found
jon23d@jfd:~/devel/java]$ echo $PATH
/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/games:/opt/jdk1.5.0_08/bin:/opt/www/htdig/bin:/usr/lib/java/bin:/usr/lib/java/jre/bin:/opt/kde/bin:/usr/lib/qt/bin:/usr/share/texmf/bin:.
jon23d@jfd:~/devel/java]$ ls /opt/jdk1.5.0_07/bin
ControlPanel extcheck java javah jdb jsadebugd keytool native2ascii rmic servertool
HtmlConverter idlj java-rmi.cgi javap jinfo jstack kinit orbd rmid tnameserv
appletviewer jar javac javaws jmap jstat klist pack200 rmiregistry unpack200
apt jarsigner javadoc jconsole jps jstatd ktab policytool serialver
jon23d@jfd:~/devel/java]$ /opt/jdk1.5.0_07/bin/javac
Usage: javac <options> <source files>
.........
So, as you can see - the program is found only if I specify the folder... Am I missing something?

The folder in your $PATH appears to be /opt/jdk1.5.0_08/bin, whereas the folder in which the executable lives is /opt/jdk1.5.0_07/bin.
