chmod querry


can chmod make any file executable?

and chmod is used to change permissions of files, and permissions can be
read, write, execute and can also be assigned to a particular user or a group of
users or to ALL.

Searching Google with the keywords GNU Linux file permissions will add to
your knowledge.

chmod can give any file the permission to execute. Of course only actual binary programs and scripts will execute. A regular file given the permission to execute still won't do anything if you try to run it.

Also, directories need executable permissions if you want to change to them (why this is the case, I don't know, however).
