chmod: changing permissions of `/usr../bin': Read-only file File System Issue

Hi,

When I am trying to install oracle db 11g in linux as part of the installation I am running /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/root.sh
script and I am getting following issue

Enter the full pathname of the local bin directory: [/usr/local/bin]: /usr/local/remote/packages/local/bin

/usr/local/remote/packages/local/bin is read only. Continue without copy (y/n) or retry (r)? [y]:

How do I make this folder is writable? Now when I try this from root:
chmod 775 /usr/local/remote/packages/local/bin
chmod: changing permissions of `/usr/local/remote/packages/local/bin': Read-only file system

How to resolve this?
thanks,
cdhar

Code:
chmod -R 775 /usr/local/remote/packages/local/bin
After invoking chmod, did you check permission mode of /usr/local/remote/packages/local/bin? And are you running setup from an external device?

thanks for the reply.

[root@abc03z ~]# ls -l /usr/local/remote/packages/local/
drwxr-xr-x 2 root bin 12288 Oct 26 23:46 bin

No I am not running from external device. I am running setup from /opt/oracledb-install/database/runInstall

The name '/usr/local/remote/packages/local/' is rather lame. But, what matters more, it resides on a read-only partition. You should ask your administrator to help.
