Centos 5.6 nis

Hello Linux Guru's

I've just followed the how-to configure nis server and nis client in http://www.server-world.info

I think I've done it correctly according to the steps.
The ordinary user accounts from the nis server is now applicable in the nis client upon login. My only question is, is the root user and password from the nis server also applicable in the nis client? I've also tried to login using the root user and root password of the nis server to the nis client but it fails to login. Its no big deal to me but I'm just curious if its possible to be like that so that my nis server will be the login server for user and root account.

Given that NIS is a plaintext protocol, I wouldn't recommend that for root (or any user really).
Have you considered LDAP+TLS eg see tutorials here http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/

Thanks for your reply, I've never mentioned earlier that beside of following the guides on how-to configure nis from http://www.server-world.info website, I also configured 1st the samba pdc for login authentication of 10 windows clients in the same box where I tried to run the nis service. Will there be any conflict if LDAP+TLS authentication services for linux users and SAMBA Authentication for windows users run in the same time in one server?
