cdrom/dvd combo drive configure problem

Hi ! am new to linux but like so far. Have a sony laptop
with a cdrom/dvd combo drive. Can mount a data cd and read but cannot mount a audio cdrom.I get a error mess. cannot read file .can mount a dvd but does not play or show chapters. Initial install went good but cannot read kernal.
error says cannot open file. am using SuSE 8.2.searched
lots of sites but fixes only apply to separate drives and not a combo. tried to make a link to dev/sr0 cdrom, dvd, cdwriter
but only get a /dvdrecorder which it isnt.
would appreciate any suggestions

Welcome to LQ

Normally, Linux does not 'mount' an Audio CD. It just plays it straight from the drive. So you just have to choose a linux CD Player (might I suggest Grip) and play the cd directly from the device.
