cannot shut off touchpad puppy linux lucid 528

When I try to disable the touchpad on my hp pavilion laptop, I get a message synaptics driver not installed. The problem is the cursor flys around the screen if the touchpad is active. I run the laptop as a win 7 machine, puppy linux os (booted off a pen drive) and as a dos machine (also booted off a pen drive). Use dos for wordperfect 5.1for word processing. I use win 7 very little.

Any help will be appreciated.
