cannot mount jaz drive

I'm setting up a new server, running RH linux 9.0. I just installed a new dual channel SCSI card, and that seemed to be recognized just fine. I then attached a Jaz drive, and that also seemed to be recognized ok. The card's BIOS level detection reported slot 7, channel A, ID 0, LUN 0, and during boot up something called dcstor32d reported sg2 at SCSI 0, channel 4, id 6, lun 0, type 3.

Well I guess that means it's at /dev/sg2, but I can't do much to actually mount that device onto a directory. Also, on the old server, the Jaz drive is mounted at /dev/sdc4, and its mount point is created at bootup as long as the Jaz drive is on. Why is the Jaz drive on the new server going to the /dev/sgX devices? /dev/sda, and /dev/sdb are being used by 2 RAID arrays

If this makes any sense, I could really use some help with this.

My understanding is that /dev/sg* is for generic scsi devices, and /dev/sd* is for scsi disk devices. I would expect your Jaz drive to be mounted as a /dev/sdc1, similarly to what you saw formerly.

Looking at /proc/scsi/scsi can be informative.

Hi. As far as I know Jaz and Zip drives are mounted on /dev/sd*4.
