cannot get to gnome or kde *bash shell is gone

hi
i just installed linux. after that i uninstalled sendmail, mutt and fetchmail package. then the problem started: i can get my graphical logon screen but cannot logon even after putting correct userid n passwd. the same user-id n passwd i use for console mode and it works. And in the console screen (bash shell), if i type commands like 'ls' 'more' 'less' -- it gives the prompt that 'command not found'.

Is that I have uninstalled also some important package that time? is there any soln other than reinstalling the whole OS?
Thnx
xenon

Try to login with failsafe instead of KDE, then check to see if /bin/bash exists. If it does type '/bin/bash' and tell us the output.

Don't log in as root, you never need to do that and it's insecure
