Cannot detect firewire connected handycam, in Intrepid.
I am trying to set up a sony hdr-hc9 hdv 1080i for use in Stopmotion. My logytech cam is detected and works a dream. However I would like better quality and run at least in hd mode. I cannot get my camera detected in Stopmotion preference/video device. Here is what I tried so far:
sudo apt-get install dvgrab
sudo apt-get update
Don't know if it is installed, cant see it anywhere in Applications.
To check if firewire is installed;
Meaning? None the wiser, I assumed yes?
To check that this camera is supported;
sudo apt-get install gscanbus
gscanbus
couldn't get handle: No such file or directory
This probably means that you don't have raw1394 support in the kernel or that you haven't loaded the raw1394 module.
What's next? Install “support”???
do I need permissions?
sudo chmod g+rw /dev/raw1394
chmod: cannot access `/dev/raw1394': No such file or directory
Ok, not installed?
I also downloaded Kino and checked in 'preference';
"The ieee 1394 subsystem module must be loaded, and you must have read and write access to /dev/raw1394"
So what's next (isn't installed by default in Intrepid?)....
Thanks for all your help! If someone has a similar problem and need help too, I have found the answer, so just drop a line, I will monitor this post for a little while. Over and out.
